Blood-Salt-Steel-Nitrogen. Jolly Rogers 2
Guests
Our crew from Little Rock, Arkansas back again. Scott McCrory who is the
owner of the Dive Shop with locations in Little Rock, Marietta GA, Memphis
TN, and Joplin MO along with Dennis, Robert, Franklin, and Phil the HD
cameraman. Check out the Dive Shop website
www.diveshop1.com , and give Scott
a call for Spearboard pricing on any dive gear that you need which they can
ship nationwide. As a non-spearing diver we let Phil jack up his nitrogen
level on almost every drop, and he shot massive amounts of footage with his
U/W Sony HD setup. Look for a new JR2 slay video coming soon....
Also along for the ride was John Riddick (SB-Redneck) who helped me keep
Jimmy Z's endless rhetoric in severe check. Great success, high five!!!
Sea Conditions
Looks like NOAA overstated their forecast for once instead of vice
versa. The 15-20 knots and gusty winds with 4'-6' seas never materialized,
and we enjoyed no more than 1' the entire weekend. Water temps are 64* off
the Hatch, and the same in the MG which seem unseasonably cold for this time
of year there. Visibility averaged 50'-60' inside, and 80' in the MG.
Slay Report
Damn! The NOAA forecast was calling for reenactments of The Perfect
Storm yet we weren't seeing it cautiously creeping off the Hatch the first
day in flat seas diving the rock piles and wrecks while heading further
offshore. By mid-day the following day Jimmy Z pulled the trigger to truck
it to the MG since we were really only 25-30 miles away at that point
anyway. More slaying ensued with gags, mangos, jacks, and some hogs coming
over the rails in quantity.....you get the idea. Hook and line fishing was a
bust for the most part due to the aggressive 5#-10# red snappers that were
tearing up our baits, and not letting anything else legal get a chance to
get caught. The NMFS sure has it right that this species is on the verge of
collapse .
It was good to finally complete a full trip to complement the one other
single overnighter already in the books for our pitiful YTD charter totals.
To say this winter's weather has sucked big chimpanzee testicles does not do
justice to chimpazee testicles. The trips are now lined up fast and furious
for the next few months so hopefully King Neptune will grant us a reprieve.
Standing by....
