Thanks to Jason (Ketchum) for jumping in at the last minute to fill the
spot vacted by another SB member that had to bow out because of medical
reasons. I hope we get you back on a trip when you're back to 100%
health. Not to rub it in......but damn, we shot alot of fish !
Sea Conditions
After a solid couple months of consistently shitty weather we
finally caught a break. Seas ranged anywhere from flat calm to four foot
with the ever present "night winds" , a "phenomena" that Captain Jimmy Z
theorized in intricate detail to our great delight. Water temps were a
comfortable 63*-65* with very little current the entire weekend.
Slay Report
Fizisition and I began the slay marathon the day before this trip
was scheduled to depart by going on a one day MG run with Spearchucker
and Seastalker. We struck hogfish paydirt on Spearchucker's go-fast,
easily getting our four man rec limit with half of them being males, but
really struggled to locate any gags. Based on what we saw in the Grounds
we decided to keep the JR2 off the Hatch, and while we sacrificed our
chances of any alpha male brownsnouters, the decision proved to be a
good one in terms of fish box busting poundage. Our deeper stops the
second day got us going on jacks, gags, and mangos while the last day
was all about hogs on the rock piles along what remained to end the trip
into the second fish box with boat limits of every species except for
snapper where we were only a few short.
Feast and famine. The last charter I was on before this one was 2 1/2
months ago with only a quickie day run to Bayport in between. Now as I
sit here after four days of intense steelslinging with a foggy head, a
back that hurts more than that of an eighty year old migrant worker,
hands so raw I can barely write my name, and contemplating whether I
should load up a Pez dispenser with Vicodins I ask myself if it was all
worth it? Yeah right, when is the next trip? Standing by.....
