Fat Bottomed Gags You Make the Slingin' World Go Round. April

Guests
Kitefisherman, Crapshooter, Hammer, Codbone, and zds3488. All have been on
the JR2 numerous times, and it was a pleasure as always. Freeshaft and
myself ran the show while Jimmy Z stayed home, and fawned over his precious
LA Lakers. The Rockets in six, dude .
Sea Conditions
The forecast Thursday called for 3'-5' seas all weekend in the MG. Trips on
the westside were being canceled faster than than a Rottweiler running after
a mailman wearing bologna underwear, but the JR2 stayed resolute. Do a
little bit more research because if you believe NOAA, then you are "noaa"
going to go spearfishing very often. Friday and Saturday never got over 1',
and Sunday it might have gotten up to 3' for part of the day. No vis inside
of 70 fsw, but all is well in the MG with 50'-80' vis on all spots. Water
temps still in the mid to upper sixties with moderate currents despite the
approaching new moon.
Fish Love Stainless Steel
We left Friday after lunch to try some spots in 70 fsw, and hit the bottom
before we saw it. Hammer, Crapshooter, and I dove a wreck east of the MG in
115 fsw before sunset, and cracked the seal on the fishbox with some nice
gags that you'll see pictures of shortly. The hook and lining sucked again
so it turned into an early bedtime. I'm anxiously awaiting those all night
mango, tuna, and kingfish marathons after diving non-stop from dawn to dusk.
Just a few more degrees on the water temp, and we'll be there.
Saturday we kicked it into high gear with some very impressive catches.
Congrats to both Kitefisherman and Crapshooter who took their personal best
hogfish of 20# and 21# respectively. Crap also had two of his gags topping
over 20#, and another hog just under. Hammer took the big gag of the trip at
23# on the very last dive, while Kite, Codbone, and zds took numerous mangos
in the 6#-8# range. No trophies for me on this trip, but I absolutely pimp
slapped the mangos. I had snappers swinging from the hoop on most dives like
rosary beads slipping through the fingers of a Franciscan nun on a prayer
vigil. Freeshaft rounded out the pile with some respectable tallies
including a blacksnouter hog.
Kept the party going until Sunday around noon when the nitrox ran out.
Pointed the bow NE to the Hatch, and ran strong at 17 knots right into 3'
seas. Thank you, good night, we'll see you the next time we come around on
tour, we love you all!!! Jolly Rogers 2 standing by.
For a year supply of Jolly Dogs, what is the title of this trip report a
reference to?
