The Gulf
Of MeXXXico's Most Wanted. Jolly Rogers 2 Dec 2-4
'05 |
Guests
Bubblejunkie, Tropicaldiver, Catfish, Ascotgregory, and his buddy Paul.
Thanks to Bubblejunkie for bringing (and shucking) a 40# box of oysters.
Sea Conditions
We opted to stay local instead of heading to the MG with the dicey
weekend forecast. Seas ended up being 2'-4' all weekend, with very cold,
windy air temps on Saturday that warmed up considerably on Sunday. Water
temp at 68*, and vis was a very blue 40'-70'.
Slay Report
It doesn't get much better off the Hatch than it does right now. We
didn't miss a beat by skipping the MG, and got into the second fish box with
limits of gags and amberjack by very early Sunday morning. For those of you
that have been on the JR2, it takes ALOT of fish to fill up the first fish
box. Catfish had his best trip yet on the JR2, and Ascotgregory experienced
a freeshafting epiphany going "off the leash" for the first time with
successful results. As usual when Bubblejunkie is on the boat, his endless
banter back and forth with Jimmy Z provided surface interval entertainment
when we weren't underwater surrounded by dozens of targets at all times.
I got an opportunity to really tune the new SS muzzle I had put on my custom
Team HeadHunter Sea Hornet triple freeshafter, and was left "holding wood"
on several occasions with all shafts out in fish. Thanks to Spear One and
Spear Ten for creating such a Weapon of HOD Production. Ascotgregory makes
another return to the Hatch next Friday with a new crew if the sea gods
smile on us for one more weekend.
