Shades of Gray off 'The Hatch' ~ Jan 7-9

What a sweet trip! With spring like
air temps, flat seas, top to bottom vis and a fresh rebuild pushing us along
at 20kts. What more could you ask for?.. Oh yeah, how about copious amounts
of Gags, a plethora of Hogs and Jacks a plenty – Ok, you got it!
Jim, Kevin ( Topshotta ) and Jeff ( Speargun ) started the madness on one of
the inshore rock piles and broke the ice with stuffed stringers(HOD’s) Yawn
– Just another day off the “Hatch”. George (JaxReefSounder), Jeff and I hit
on of Jim’s hot wrecks and weren’t disappointed. The Jacks met us 10ft.
under the boat and tried to obscure the view all the way down. I left a
Donkey on the bottom while I looked around and saw a Mutton near 15lbs
trying to drag my Jack under the wreck!
Once in the Grounds, the Gags were thick. Val, Steve and George showed their
East side stuff putting the steel to many a “Gray”. There was some serious
snoring going on Saturday night. Follow a good day shooting with a pan of
baked ziti and top with a wicked Gag bite and everybody was out like a
light.
Since we were limited out on Gags, Sunday was a Hog and Mango hunt. Working
further down we managed to box a lot of nice Snouters and Jeff got a
personal best Lobster. Two more inshore stops on the way home filled out the
AJ limit and pumped up the mango tally.
Nice shooting Guys and thanks again for a great trip!
